Jul 04, 2010 09:59:23 pm

merdekareview.com

Kit Siang: Sabahans have become minority in Sabah

By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani | The Malaysian Insider

PETALING JAYA, July 4 — Lim Kit Siang said today that the lack of economic opportunities and development in Sabah had caused an exodus to Kuala Lumpur for greener pastures.

“After 47 years, Sabahans are now concerned that they have become the minority and strangers in their own land. How can Sabah’s population of 400,000 during the formation of Malaysia in 1963 be now multiplied to over three million today. Super producers in Sabah, where did they come from?” he said during Pakatan Rakyat’s first meeting of Sabahans in Klang Valley.

However, Lim pointed out that many Sabahans have been exploited with false promises which have left many to be unemployed and homeless.

He added that Sabah still lacked the basic infrastructure and necessities to accommodate the growing number of unemployed.

“Something has gone very wrong that Sabah has become so poor. The state is lacking the necessary infrastructure. The federal government had promised that all development in peninsular will also be in Sabah but now even electricity, water and broadband is lacking.

Hi Sabahans in Klang Valley – Lets meet in PJ on Sunday 2 pm

The meeting of Sabahans in the Klang Valley will be held this Sunday (July 4, 2010) at 2 pm at the Petaling Jaya Community Library Hall (next to Assunta Hospital, Petaling Jaya) (see map) to discuss the problems and needs, grievances and frustrations of Sabahans particularly those stranded in the Klang Valley.

The idea of a meeting of Sabahans in Klang Valley is the upshot of recent visits by DAP MPs/SAs to various parts of Sabah in the past months including Kota Belud, Tuaran, Keningau, Tambunan, Sepanggar, Donggongon and Kampong Inobong in Penampang, Tawau, Merotai, Kalabakan, Pitas and Kota Marudu.

Wherever DAP MPs/SAs Hiew King Cheu (Kota Kinabalu), Teo Nie Ching (Serdang), Lim Lip Eng (Segambut), Jimmy Wong (DAP Sabah state Assemblymen for Sri Tanjong) and I went in Sabah, there was concern about the plight of Sabahans stranded in the Klang Valley, particularly following media reports early this year of homeless Sabahans who had to scavenge for food from garbage bins outside restaurants in the Klang Valley.

Water supply in the rural districts

Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Dr. Hiew in his debate on the 10th Malaysia Plan which is scheduled to start in 2011 till 2015 with an expenditure of RM235 billion, mentioned that the rural water supply in Sabah is in need of immediate attention. This is because until today the clean water supply to the rural folks and kampongs is not adequate, and the people there are still consuming dirty water directly from rivers and wells which are not treated.

He also said that the many villages just outside Kota Kinabalu City are still having no pipe water supplied to them. They are depending on rivers and hill water, and for Pulau Gaya which is just a few kilometers across the sea from KK, until now there is still no water supply. The local people there, some one thousand inhabitants, have to depend on small boats to ferry their daily water needs.

Appeal to improve road network in Kota Kinabalu and surrounding districts

Every morning and evening residents and people using the old Penampang road which connects the Bundusan road roundabout and Yu Min School roundabout are facing long traffic jam. According to one complainant by the name of Danny, he said he has to withstand the long jam which can last for hours. Danny has every right to be upset with the traffic because the distant between his house and the Bundusan roundabout is less than 300 meters. He called Sabah DAP to inform that his tolerance level is now very critical. He is pretty sure that those using this road are feeling the same.

Sabah DAP Publicity Secretary Dr. Edwin Bosi made a checked on the situation this morning and found that the claim is true. A photo is taken to give the authority a good sense of the traffic jam.

Basically, the jam is caused by the increase in road users compounded by the many housing estates along this stretch of road. The government has not taken into consideration of the fast increasing road users and the sprouting of housing estates in the area. The increase in road users is not corresponding to improvement and upgrading of the road network. The traffic jams in many parts of our road system is increasing and very glaring.

RESOLUTION of first meeting of Sabahans in Klang Valley

RESOLUTION of first meeting of Sabahans in Klang Valley in Petaling Jaya on Sunday, July 4, 2010:

The first meeting of Sabahans in the Klang Valley held in Petaling Jaya on Sunday, July 4, 2010 to discuss specifically the problems of Sabahans stranded in Klang Valley and generally the concerns, grievances and frustrations of Sabahans 47 years in Malaysia RESOLVES as follows:

  1. EXPRESS grave concern at the socio-economic plight of Sabahans stranded in the Klang Valley to the extent that homeless Sabahans had to scavenge for food from garbage bins outside restaurants in the Klang Valley or depend on food served by NGOs;

  2. EXPRESS grave distress at the spectrum of outstanding political, economic, socio-economic-cultural and citizenship woes of Sabahans, including:

    • the long-standing problem of illegal immigrants in Sabah, causing the Sabah population to multiply from some 400,000 during the formation of Malaysia in 1963 to over three million

    • Poverty in Sabah – instead of eradication of poverty in Sabah as promised by Barisan Nasional in 2000, Sabah has the highest poverty rate in the country.

    •

    • Shocking backwardness in the development of basic infrastructures in Sabah whether roads, piped water, electricity and broadband to Sabahans.

    • Denial and discrimination against the rights of Sabahans with regard to 20% instead of just 5% oil royalty payment to Sabah government.

  3. NOTES that the New Economic Model had pinpointed the basic failure of Malaysian nation-building which is not only undermining 1Malaysia nation-building and the transformation of Malaysia into a progressive, just and internationally competitive nation when it admitted why Malaysia is losing out in the international competitive stakes and stressed: “Malaysia must be seen by its people and by others as a land of equal opportunity to earn a good living and provide a secure, happy life for each individual and the family”. It is this failure in the past 47 years of Malaysian nation-building to make Sabahans feel that they have an equal place under the Malaysian sun, and that Malaysia is “a land of equal opportunity to earn a good living and provide a secure, happy life for each individual and the
family” that have made Sabahans feel strangers not only in Malaysia but in their native homeland in Sabah.

  4. CALLS on the Federal and Sabah state governments, and where relevant the Selangor state government, to undertake a total transformation of their policies to address and resolve the long-standing political, educational, socio-economic-cultural and citizenship woes of Sabahans or all the talk of 1Malaysia and making Sabah as “one of the most liveable places and a leading economic region in Asia” will remain empty platter.

  5. CALLS for a Royal Commission of Inquiry on how the dreams and aspirations of Sabahans and Sarawakians in forming Malaysia in 1963 had been fulfilled or betrayed in the past five decades.

【本刊记者撰述】merdekareview.com

Gamming and PTI Problem

Sabah DAP Beaufort, Ketua Cawangan Mohd Jamil Bin Jakaria ingin mengulas saranan aktivis politik En.

Sabah DAP Beaufort Branch Chief Mohd Jamil Bin Jakaria wishes to comment on the recommendations of Mr. Taufick Ruschi regarding on the issue on the appropriate location for Casino in Pulau Gaya.  At the same time I wish to correct Mr. Taufick status.   Actually he is a former independent candidate for Klias PRU-12 (2008), but not the former Member of Parliament Beaufort as indicated in the article Daily Express issue on 29th June, 2010.
My view on any location for gaming or entertainment center, will only cause negative impact for the public. Basically is seemed will benefiting the economy, but in reality not only will cause great loss, and also the destruction of economic and social for the majority of people regardless of station in life.

Jeffrey Wong Su En is NOT the Sabah DAPSY Chief

Media Statement by DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) National Chairman and MP for Rasah, Loke Siew Fook, on Thursday, 1 July 2010 in Petaling Jaya.

Jeffrey Wong Su En is NOT the Sabah DAPSY Chief

I was informed that there were news reports in various Sabah local newspapers quoting Jeffrey Wong Su En as claiming himself as the duly elected Sabah DAP Socialist Youth Chief. As the DAPSY National Chairman, I wish to state that Jeffrey Wong is NOT the Sabah DAPSY Chief.

There was no meeting whatsoever to elect the Sabah DAPSY state executive committee in the last one year. All news and pictures used by Jeffery Wong to claim that he was endorsed by the national DAPSY were not true. The pictures of him with DAPSY national leaders were taken in July 2009. DAPSY Deputy Chairman, Jenice Lee Ying Ha and I made a visit to Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau in July 2009 arranged by Teddy Yang. In Kota Kinabalu, we launched the Sabah DAPSY pro-tem committee headed by Teddy Yang. However, after that visit, there was no follow-up to call for a state convention to formalize Sabah DAPSY.
