Has Najib’s New Economic Model been hijacked by Neo-NEP Umnoputras like Perkasa forcing another delay in its announcement? The assurance by the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that no Malaysian would be sidelined in the New Economic Model (NEM) is not convincing when from all indications, the NEM has been hijacked by Neo-NEP Umnoputras like Perkasa, forcing another delay in its announcement.
When Datuk Seri Najib Razak became Prime Minister last April, he announced that the government would introduce a new economic model for the country to ensure that Malaysia makes a quantum leap to escape the middle-income trap to become a high-income country through greater emphasis on innovation, creativity and competitiveness. In May last year, the Second Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said the new economic model would be announced in the second half of the year.Time is clearly of the critical essence to launch a new economic model as Husni subsequently admitted in a very frank speech in December that the country had lost a decade in economic stagnation. In actual fact, Malaysia had lost not only one decade in economic stagnation but four decades in failing to fully realize the economic potential of the rich natural and human resources of the country, resulting in Malaysia losing out not only to other countries including Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea but at risk of being overtaken by an increasing list of other countries like Vietnam, Thailand and even Indonesia.
Not a time to lose March 8 spiritBy Kee Thuan Chye http://blog.limkitsiang.com/ There was a lot of optimism right after March 8, 2008. There was a sense that things would get better. But has there been much change two years since that day? Instead of seeing multi-racialism being freely accepted and manifested in government policies, we find ourselves becoming more divided along racial lines. Right after March 8, Umno embarked on its campaign to warn the Malays that they were under threat and to rise up against this. The government has assumed a schizophrenic personality – the prime minister talks about 1Malaysia while his deputy says things that are completely contradictory. The PM talks about multi-racial unity while his own party campaigns for Malay unity. <
Dr. Hiew was accompanied by the Sabah DAP Batu Sapi chairman George Hiew Vun Zin and members inspected the gen-sets and confirmed that these are used second-hand units. There are 15 units of gen-sets to bank up to produce a top power supply of 20MW to the Sandakan power consumers. It is sad to see on site that the units were “struggling” to produce power, and “screaming” away to produce enough “juice” for the consumers. The 15 units are of a combination of some 1.74MW unit to smaller units of 0.75 MW per unit capacity. This is supposed to produce a total of 20 MW power, but due to the limitation and efficiency drop of the old units, the power produced is much lower that expectation. During the time of visit, there were two units broken down already, and some four other units could face serious breakdown soon, and the output was down to only 17.15MW. If further units break down, the power supply will be reduced further.
Kit Siang: Pakatan to win big if Anwar is jailedBy Neville Spykerman | SHAH ALAM, March 7 — Veteran opposition leader Lim Kit Siang today predicted the Pakatan Rakyat will have an easier time at the next general election if the government jails Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for sodomy. “If he is jailed, our motto will be free Anwar, vote PR!” said the DAP stalwart during the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Convention. Another proof of KDM poor 赤贫土著家庭沙巴民主行动党要求政府认真地看待那些极度贫困,并且得不到关注的土著贫穷家庭。
Sabah DAP calls on the government to look seriously into the plight of the hardcore poor which are not getting due attention. The Sabah DAP Welfare and Rural Development Bureau chief Jeffrey Kumin who made a recent visit to the Ratau village near Tebobon, Menggatal where he found 5 families living opposite SMK Tebobon in a very poor and shameful condition. This is part of the activities launched by the DAP under the program “Cari Orang Miskin”. According to Jeffrey who is also the DAP Sepanggar branch chairman, the five families which total up to about 50 people have been staying there for the last seven years without electricity and water supply, and they are all KDMs.
Online petition on lifting ban on book- “The Golden Son of the Kadazan” 网络签名解除禁令‘卡达山族之天子’一书 http://www.petitiononline.com/

Last Updated (Wednesday, 10 March 2010 09:43) Najib losing battle for 1Malaysia when a rational and level-headed Umno leader like Second Finance Minister Husni could make a racist remark when he is under influence of Penang UMNOThe Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak is fighting a losing battle for his 1Malaysia slogan and concept when a rational and level-headed Umno leader like the Second Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Husni Mohd Hanadzlah could make a racist remark when he is under the influence of Penang Umno.
DAP MP for Jelutong Jeff Ooi has asked Husni to apologise for making a racist remark at a dinner organized by the Penang Malay Chamber of Commerce on Friday, where he said: “Kalau orang Cina di Pulau Pinang buli kita, kita lawan balik orang Cina”. Husni’s racist remark was reported in the evening edition of the Penang papers on Saturday night but it was taken out in the morning editions of the Sunday papers. Last Updated (Monday, 08 March 2010 07:45) Cabinet on Wednesday should give “green light” for legislative action to allow state governments like Penang to restore local government electionsThe Penang State Executive Council has made a historic decision to restore local government elections for Penang which was suspended 45 years on 1st March 1965 because of Indonesian Confrontation which ended in the latter part of 1966. If elections to the two Municipal Councils of Penang, the Municipal Council of Penang Island (MPPP) and the Municipal Council of Seberang Prai (MPSP) are held at this time, it would be doubly meaningful because the last local council elections in Malaysia was held half a century ago in 1961. Why a full pledge Agriculuture University should be established?Malaysia is an agriculture country and oil palm is one of the top export and revenue earners for the country. At one point in time, our political leaders were right in establishing Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM), after upgrading it from the Serdang Agriculture Institute in 1974. Our country has been served dedicatedly by the alumni of UPM in agricultural development in Malaysia. Unfortunately, the new political leaders then surprisingly decided to change UPM to Universiti Putra Malaysia, another UPM. This time, UPM started to develop many courses which are completely unrelated to agriculture. UPM has gone into sports and human medicine for example. The momentum that was moving the agriculture sector loss its steam and became negligible. Young Malaysians are now not keen to pursue agriculture as a career or for future business enterprises. Agriculture has lost its shine. For a country that is dependent on agriculture, this is a tragic episode. I know there are political leaders who want to revive the green book policy. In this uneasy and trying time globally, food security is of paramount importance. Every country wants to attain food sufficiency. Political leaders know that insufficient food and poverty are ingredients for trouble politically and for the country. |
